Optimal ad placements in your website
EasyPlatform has updated publisher tags and the new ad zones have more options and better functionality. They have better algorithm for real-time ad bidding and support the different types of advertising in one code.
The different campaigns have a wider reach and more placements to communicate with the users. The publishers get the most of the ads shown in the placement without any additional efforts and set ups.
The new code is cleaner and simpler to implement on your website. It works as fast as the last version and is versatile to use with different ad servers or to place it directly on your website.
If you have already created your ad spots in the platform, you are able to generate the new tags and be on track in no time. You can alter the details of the ad spots by accessing the Settings on each of them. You can define the layout, the colors of the ads, the type of ads to be shown and much more.
- Edit the ad spot name;
- Select the type of ads to be shown;
- To define a fallback code to be called when the impression is not bought by us
- If the ad spot is with size of 300x600 or 970x250 you can link them with smaller ad spot sizes. This gives you the opportunity to show the best ads regardless of the size;
- Customize the layout of the Native Ads which are displayed. You have the freedom to choose the size, the layout, the colors of the title, description, link and border. This way you can customize them to be in consonance with the rest of the site content;
- In the bottom you will find the tag itself.
You just need to Save it and implement it on your site.
Ad Spot Placement Recommendations
In order to earn money from advertising you should carefully pick the right placements where to place the ad spots. They have to be visible and be nicely integrated in the content without interfering with the usability of the website. The best placements are located near the main content - inside and under the articles. If the ad spot is beside it, it has to be big and noticeable.
We grouped our recommendations in two based on the two main layouts of the websites - Desktop and Mobile:
The most visible placement for the upper part of the website is 970x250. It is wide enough to cover the whole width of the page and offers reasonable height in order to get the messages to the users without sacrificing the UX. If you don't want to show this format every single time to the user you may define frequency capping and show it only twice or three times per user for example. This way you gain the benefits from the placement but without reserving the whole area for advertising on every impression. With EasyPlatform you don't need an AdServer to accomplish this - you have it by design.
A common and important placement in the right column is 300x600. This ad size is already popular and successful with its bigger size compared to the 300x250 one. Most of the advertisers do know this and use it in their campaigns but the best option nevertheless is to link it with 300x250 to be sure that you do not miss out opportunities for monetization if some advertiser only uses 300x250.
Under and In-Article:
We strongly recommend you to use ad spots designed for the content. You may choose the best layout with the optimal width for your site in order to blend the ads with the content. In this way the ads are placed in a non-intrusive way and provide useful information and offers.
When you have a mobile version or responsive website, the options for ad placements are not so diverse. knowing the most common resolutions of mobile devices, the best ad size is 300x250 because it is big enough to be visible but not too big not to be visualized in its full size. You can define to show 300x600 on devices with bigger screens but test this case thoroughly!
In mobile, it is recommended to place the ads on every two or three scrolls. If the page is "endless" by design you can continue placing ad spots but be careful to load them individually while the scrolling through the page. Be cautious not to load ad spots that are too far below with the initial load of the page because the users may never see them and the RPM will be low.
Responsive Ad Placements - how to manage them correctly?
When you have a responsive website you do need to make the ad spots responsive as well so be careful how you implement the tags on your page! If you use CSS styling just to hide an ad spot by using display:none the code itself is still executed and the request to the Ad platform is still sent. This may create problems with impressions which are not shown to the end user, lower RPMs and block by the Ad Platform because of the implementation.
